Working On Special Sites

May and June have been a busy time here at RTS. A contract that really stands out for us was working in a conservation area and area of special scientific interest. This area boasts many alluring features for those who enjoy nature and wildlife. The river is full of Trout and Salmon at this time of year as well as families of otters and the surrounding woodlands are home to deer, badgers and young birds exploring the undergrowth and tree canopies as well as rare and fragile plants.

We were asked by our client to carry out some tree maintenance in this sensitive site. The work site was home to mature Oak, Beech, and Sycamore trees, but they had never been managed so the work site held some risks. The team had to revert to their training and experience to carry out a proper risk assessment and special care was taken not to contaminate the ground or waterways or disturb any nesting birds.

The area also included historical archaeological sites and a centuries-old graveyard. After the risks were identified we set to work in a sympathetic fashion taking care not to have too big an impact on this fantastic ecosystem. These jobs are always very rewarding!
