On Caring For The Environment

Concern over climate change and the environment has never been so great. At R.T.S. we believe in taking responsibility for our impact on the planet and we are looking at ways that we can make our business greener.

Planting

The obvious starting point was to support the planting of trees and that is why we set up our corporate grove with Trees for Life. We pledge to replace every tree we remove and support the wonderful work this charity does in rebuilding the Caledonian Forrest.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Disposing of wood and garden waste ethically is another way we endeavor to be green. Disposal methods vary depending on the waste but generally we:

  • Donate chippings to those who can use it in their gardens/ play areas (saves the use of packaged and chemically treated bark)
  • Dispose of green waste to recycling plants.
  • Separate waste carefully so that it can be used to the best potential.

Ethics

Wherever possible we try not to remove entirely native species such as Yew and Oak, as these play an important part in the ecosystem providing homes and food sources for wildlife.

Business Practices

  • We operate a paperless accounting system. We bill our clients electronically and use online banking to avoid paper waste.
  • When we do require to use paper such as thank you cards for our valued customers we use recycled paper

Plans for a Greener Future

  • Where possible we are looking at greener and cleaner tools in a bid to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
  • Increase our donations to other environmental charities.
  • Continue to inspire gentle, wildlife supporting gardening in our blog posts.

We would welcome any input from others on ways to reduce our carbon footprint and build a greener business.
